Christmas customs in Germany

Often children have a advent calendar ( every day they open a “door” and get a little present). On the 6th Dezember is a famouse day: St Nicholas, parents put presents in socks and in fettled shoes. When children were bad, they get a rood.
It gives 4 advents, that are the 4 Sundays till the Christmas evening. Often peoples go in the church on this day. They light up a candle on first advent, 2. advent- 2 candels……. And so on.
Sometimes people bake cookies and eat stolen.
In Germany it gives a Christmas market where you can play games, eat and they sit in carrouse and can buy presents for christmas.
The christmas tree is very important for the German peoples .They put presents under it and on the 24th,Dezember often children open it. On the evening the most people eat sausage and potato salad. On the 25th Dezember the people enjoy the winter-feeling and in the evening they eat duck, dumplings and red cabagge. On the 26th Dezember the people relaxe.
Our trip to Germany
This visit included also the Bulgarian teachers, Olie and Paulie, and was made to prepare all the work and the visits the students will take part in the Comenius project.
They found the school facilities very nice and very different from those in our school and they liked Warnemunde a lot, although it was very windy and cold. Some students, Robert, Felix, Henning and Garlef took them in a guided tour around Rostock, a very nice town with beautiful houses, and showed them many interesting monuments, such as the University building, the City Hall and St Peter´s Church. They were very kind and spoke English very well.
It was a very interesting trip.
Back at school, the teachers showed us some photos and postcards and gave us information about that part of Northern Germany, so different from Portugal. You will be able to see that, when you come around.

Diary - 23rd October, 2008
Hi again! We have a new member in Comenius club! Is Silvia! She is really nice and helpful, is totally an advantage member for all of us.
Manuel and Diogo are finishing our logotype and it is really nice! You will see it. Now we are working to get money for the travel and other things, for that, we are getting up raffles to earn extra money. We have to sell five thousand raffles! Can you believe it? It’s a lot! We have to think in ideas to work in our bridges. We are making a search of each bridge in detail go be easier to work on. Each pair has one bridge to work on, so the right thing to do is start the work immediately. Susana and Daniela had searched a lot of information about our little town, Marco de Canaveses, and Inês and Margarida translate it to English for everybody understands. We will put it in our publish blog when it finishes. In spite of little, our town is really comfortable and we like to live here, but we are really curious to know your country too! We can’t wait! Next Wednesday is the meeting with our parents and teachers to remove all the doubts about Comenius club. We will meet again on Thursday, see you there!
Diary - 15th October, 2008
Since the year begins, we have been very excited, all of us.
Our questions were: what are we doing here? Oh my God! We have really lot of work to do! We agreed a day and an hour and let’s go!
Well here we are, on 15th October, ready for really hard work. Today, teacher said, to each one of us, to choose a bridge to work on. We are in pairs, like: The little Inês with Margarida, the big Inês with Débora, Susy is with Daniela and finally Diogo is with Manuel. We all like to be together, we’re became good friends, so is very nice work like that. We have to search a lot of information about our bridges, they are very nice, believe!
Moreover, we have to make bank, I mean, make money! Yes, we need money to buy all the things we will use in the future, so, we’ll try to do some money on our “autumn faire”, with cakes, chestnuts, jam and so many things. It will be really funny! But the girls and boys that are on the 9th grade don’t like that idea very much, because they have to same money too! For the finalist travel! Well, live is like this…! Just kidding!
And teacher is always calling us sweets and cookies too!
We are really anxious to talk to our friends! Is the funniest part, isn’t it?
Of course it is! We will meet again on next Thursday, with more work to do.
See you!
